The Consumer Goods Council of SA is proud to report that the number of armed robbery incidents aimed at its members has decreased substantially to 14 per month since November last year, when the average number of robberies per month was 25.

The number of armed robbery incidents reported by members decreased by 44% in the month of April to 14 from 25 in the same month last year (April 2009).

The financial losses suffered relating to these robberies in April amounted to R391, 993, a significant decrease of 89% when compared to the R3, 53m in April of 2009. This would indicate an average of R28, 000 loss per robbery in April 2009.

The Furniture Traders Association (FTA) to merge with the Consumer Goods Council of South Africa (CGCSA) PDF Print E-mail

22 March 2010

The 66th Annual General Meeting of the FTA held on 19 March 2010 has unanimously voted for a merger with the CGCSA. All furniture, appliance and home goods retailers that were members of the FTA will be represented by the CGCSA.

This merger augurs well with the establishment of the soon to be launched South African Retail Council (SARC) which will be operating within the CGCSA looking after its retail members.

“This merger will go a long way to ensuring a single voice that will represent and facilitate matters on behalf of retail industry. Our industry needs to consolidate existing representative associations and not create new ones”, the CGCSA CEO, Mncane Mthunzi said.
