CGCSA’s response to the African Center for Biosafety regarding Product GM Labelling and Trade Descriptions dated 23rd of March 2012 |

The Consumer Goods Council of South Africa (CGCSA) is currently engaging with the National Consumer Commissioner (NCC) regarding GM Labelling to seek clarity on this matter.
We received a letter from the NCC’s office on 27th of March 2012, in which the NCC has noted the contents of our letter emailed to them on 15th of March 2012.
The Commission is currently engaging the Executive Council for GMO, the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF), as well as the Department of Trade and Industry (DTi), as part of its process of developing guidelines assessing whether the labels satisfy the requirements of plain and understandable language.
